Position Description: Start Smart/Work Smart Coordinator

The Start Smart/Work Smart Coordinator serves on the AAUW Oregon State Board as a non-voting appointed member. The purpose of the role is to educate our members about what Start Smart/Work Smart workshops do and their importance. The Coordinator is expected to be an effective communicator for AAUW’s efforts to improve economic security for women.

Responsibilities as a Member of the State Board

  • Take an active and collaborative role in assisting Oregon branches to plan and implement AAUW activities
  • Assist in aligning branch activities with state and national AAUW priorities

Responsibilities of the State Start Smart/Work Smart Coordinator

  • Provide information and encouragement to members, branches, districts about sponsoring or hosting workshops.
  • Offer to speak at branch meetings about Start Smart/Work Smart and how branches can participate.
  • Establish a communication schedule with state CU partners and branches regarding any interest in promoting programs for women to enhance their economic security.
  • Publicize successful events via state and national social media and Oregon News
  • Speak to community and/or business groups about AAUW Start Smart and Work Smart programs.
  • Bring successful Start Smart/Work Smart events to the attention of the AAUW national office.
  • Publicize AAUW Start Smart/Work Smart activities at state convention
  • Familiarize yourself with AAUW Start Smart/Work Smart educational programs and materials and be prepared to discuss the benefits of promoting such workshops with branch and community members
  • Familiarize yourself with the AAUW Strategic Plan goal on Economic Security in particular and the entire Plan in general.

Approximate time required for this position will depend on the number of Start Smart/Work Smart programs that occur within the state. Attendance at state convention and the summer Leadership Weekend are encouraged.
